However, like any treatment option, sober living homes have their pros and cons.

Why a Sober Living House

Please note that during the admissions process, Foundations is required to call local law enforcement to determine if there are any active warrants on the client. Furthermore, each individual must maintain complete abstinence from all mind- and mood-altering substances. This includes illegal drugs, alcohol, prescription drugs (certain medical exceptions can be made), or any other substance used to alter the mind or mood of an individual.

How Does Peer Recovery Play A Role In Sober Living?

Halfway houses provide a structured transitional environment for individuals recovering from addiction or transitioning from incarceration. These facilities serve as a bridge between inpatient treatment or prison and full reintegration into society. They are designed to reduce the risk of relapse or recidivism by offering continued support and supervision. This type of housing residence provides a supportive, structured environment where individuals recovering from substance use disorders can continue to heal while reintegrating into everyday life. Sober homes vary in structure and the support services they offer, but residents generally expect a structured living environment with clear rules and expectations. This can include curfews, regular drug and alcohol testing, and mandatory participation in recovery house meetings and therapy sessions.

Primary Outcomes

Recognition of the importance of one’s living environment led to a proliferation of inpatient and residential treatment programs during the 1960′ and 70’s (White, 1998). The idea was to remove clients from destructive living environments that encouraged substance use and create new social support systems in treatment. Some programs created halfway houses where clients could reside after they completed residential treatment or while they attended outpatient treatment.

How Much Does a Halfway House Cost

Two additional measures were included as covariates because they assess factors emphasized by as important to recovery in SLHs. This measure was taken from Gerstein et al. (1994) and was defined as number of arrests over the past 6 months. To assess current psychiatric severity we used the Brief Symptom Halfway House vs Sober Living Inventory (Derogatis & Melisaratos, 1983).
